| abstract in Polish: | "Historia na ekranie: Gatunek filmowy a przekład audiowizualny" to interdyscyplinarne spojrzenie na funkcję słowa w produkcjach historycznych i specyfikę ich tłumaczenia. Autorki wykorzystują narzędzia stylometrii, filmoznawstwa i przekładoznawstwa, aby pokazać fundamentalną rolę dialogu i jego przekładu w kształtowaniu gatunku filmowego. Perspektywa komparatystyczna (porównanie korpusu polskich i włoskich wersji językowych produkcji anglojęzycznych) rzuca nowe światło na złożoną naturę czynników wpływających na strategie tłumaczy. Przedmiotem badania są produkcje ukazujące starożytny Rzym, renesansową Anglię, oblegany przez Turków Wiedeń, sale balowe epoki Regencji oraz Europę wstrząsaną pierwszą wojną światową. Wyniki analizy ujawniają tematyczne i gatunkowe prawidłowości w praktyce scenopisarskiej i sztuce translatorskiej oraz odsłaniają międzykulturowe różnice w sposobach portretowania przeszłości i normach tłumaczenia audiowizualnego na potrzeby konkretnych technik opracowania. |
| abstract in English: | The monograph presents a pioneering model of audiovisual translation research, combining insights derived from Film and Media Studies, Translation Studies, Stylistics and Stylometry to inspect filmic speech in historical genre. Working on the assumption that dialogues are subject to genre-specific functional and stylistic requirements, the authors examine Anglophone films and television productions set in different historical epochs: Ancient Rome (e.g. "Quo Vadis"; "The Fall of the Roman Empire"; "Gladiator"; "I, Claudius", "Rome"), the Tudor monarchy (e.g. "Anne of a Thousand Days"; "Elizabeth"; "Elizabeth: The Golden Age"; "Elizabeth R"; "The Virgin Queen"; "The Tudors"), Regency era ("Pride and Prejudice" adaptations) and antebellum England ("Downton Abbey"; "Parade’s End"). Having assembled a parallel corpus of Anglophone dialogue lists (thirty productions, ca. 663 000 word tokens) as well as their available Polish and Italian translations (transcriptions of voiced-over, dubbed and subtitled versions; ca. 549 000 and 738 000 tokens, respectively), they conduct a multivariate stylometric analysis, searching for the signals of authorship, diachrony, genre and epoch in the original and translated dialogues. Subsequently, they subject the audiovisual material to qualitative analysis, studying the stylistic and pragmatic features of dialogues, typical of particular productions and/or historical epochs, as well as culture-specific norms and conventions followed in Polish and Italian audiovisual translation. |
