<"Desatar" a + infinitive in European Portuguese

<Desatar a + infinitive> is a construction that focuses on the beginning of the situation denoted by the predicate whose core is the infinitive form of the verb. However, the inceptive meaning is not exclusive to it. On the contrary, it is shared by a considerable range of other constructions (for example, and just to mention a few, começar a, pôr-se a, romper a, largar a + infinitive). Therefore, the purpose of this article is to investigate the idiosyncrasies of the construction under study. The discussion, structural and syntactic-semantic in nature, will rely almost exclusively on a corpus of authentic language material collected in the press and literary texts in the late 20th and early 21st century).

<Desatar a + infinitivo> é uma construção que focaliza o ‘início’ da situação denotada pelo predicado cujo núcleo é a forma verbal de infinitivo. O “inceptivo”, que é o seu significado, não lhe é, contudo, exclusivo. Começar a, pôr-se a, romper a, largar a + infinitivo são só alguns exemplos de outras construções que também o partilham. Por conseguinte, e para se poder aquilatar as suas especificidades – o objetivo desta investigação –, convocarei argumentos vários, tanto de natureza estrutural quanto sintático-semântica, e tudo sempre com base num corpus constituído por material linguístico autêntico, recolhido na imprensa escrita e em textos literários dos finais do séc. xx e inícios do séc. XXI.
