Futurity or modality? : the difficulties of Polish students in learning Portuguese future tenses and periphrases

The aim of the paper is to highlight some of the difficulties Polish students encounter when applying tenses and periphrastic constructions expressing the future in the Portuguese language. Basing on the analysis of the grammars of the Portuguese language the means to express future will be presented in the first place. At the same time modal values which seem to be closely connected to the forms expressing the future will be analyzed. Next a short analysis of the means of expressing the future in the Polish language will be conducted. Similarities and - more importantly - differences between the system of the Portuguese and Polish languages will be demonstrated.

O objetivo do artigo é apontar algumas dificuldades dos estudantes polacos que existem no âmbito do emprego dos tempos gramaticais e das construções perifrásticas de valor futuro da língua portuguesa. Em primeiro lugar, com base nas gramáticas da língua portuguesa, apresentar-se-ão os meios que servem para exprimir o valor futuro (futuro simples, futuro composto, "ir" (no tempo presente) + "infinitivo", "haver" (no tempo presente) "de" + "infinitivo", presente do indicativo). Simultaneamente, analisar-se-ão os valores modais que parecem estar intimamente ligados às formas de futuro (Paiva Boléo, 1935). A seguir, mostrar-se-á uma curta análise dos recursos que existem na língua polaca e servem para exprimir o valor futuro. Indicar-se-ão algumas convergências, mas, antes de tudo, as divergências entre os sistemas de língua portuguesa e língua polaca.
