The main The main objective of this article is to analyze the relationship between literature and politics at the end of the 19th century, with an emphasis on the reverberations of the abolitionist movement through the literary production of Maria Benedita Câmara Bormann (Délia). From a theoretical-methodological perspective inspired by the Social History of Culture, the emphasis falls on two short narratives and two novels published between 1884 and 1890, in which a movement to denounce the horrors of slavery and the persistence of masters’ interests and wills can be seen.
