Zjawisko przebywania dzieci na ulicy jako głównym środowisku wychowawczym stało się ważnym problemem społecznym dotyczącym większych ośrodków miejskich w Polsce. Funkcjonowanie w miejscu pozbawionym kontroli ze strony dorosłych (rodziny i szkoły) domaga się wypracowania przez dziecko różnych strategii przystosowawczych do warunków ulicy. Celem artykułu jest wyodrębnienie kilku charakterystycznych strategii adaptacyjnych dzieci ulicy na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań ankietowych wśród streetworkerów. Wyniki badań pozwalają wnioskować, że każdy rodzaj strategii opisany w tym opracowaniu w jakimś sensie "uzasadnia" takie postępowanie dzieci ulicy, zarówno w wymiarze jednostkowym, jak i grupowym.

The phenomenon of children spending time in the street as their main educational environment has become an important social problem concerning larger urban areas in Poland. The functioning of a child in the place deprived of control on the part of adults (family and school) demands developing various strategies for adapting to the street conditions. The article aims at distinguishing several characteristic adaptation strategies of street children on the basis of a questionnaire survey conducted among streetworkers. The results of the survey lead to the conclusion that every type of strategy described in this study in a sense 'justifies' this kind of conduct exhibited by street children, both individually and as a group.
