The Patriotism of the Polish Diaspora in Lithuania : the mission of the Vilnius Branch of the University of Białystok

Celem artykułu jest analiza głównych działań Filii Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku w Wilnie, które przyczyniają się bezpośrednio lub pośrednio do rozbudzenia poczucia patriotyzmu wśród studentów i lokalnej społeczności litewskiej w kontekście historycznym i kulturowym. Ze względu na ograniczone ramy publikacji artykuł został podzielony na dwie części. Zgodnie z tytułem w pierwszej części zostały podjęte kwestie dotyczące patriotyzmu w diasporze polskiej na Litwie, w drugiej zaś poruszono problem misji patriotycznej Filii Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku w Wilnie. Zastosowano metodę historyczno-porównawczą, która jest stosowana w badaniach nad przebiegiem zjawisk i procesów zachodzących w badanej rzeczywistości.

The aim of this article is to analyze the main activities of the Vilnius Branch of the University of Białystok that contribute - either directly or indirectly - to awakening a sense of patriotism among students and the local Lithuanian community within a historical and cultural context. Due to the limited scope of the publication, the article has been divided into two parts. In line with the title, the first part addresses issues related to patriotism within the Polish diaspora in Lithuania, while the second part examines the patriotic mission of the Vilnius Branch of the University of Białystok. A historical‐comparative method was employed, which is commonly used in research on the course of phenomena and processes taking place in the studied reality.
