The purpose of the article is to study the phenomenon of surrealist box, an artistic concept proposed by Marcel Duchamp and developed by numerous artists connected with surrealist movement. Presentation of the historical dynamic of this concept is enriched by analysis of its symbolic potential, closely related to André Breton idea of rencontre surréaliste.

Cet article se propose d'étudier le phénomène de la boîte surréaliste, un concept artistique élaboré par Marcel Duchamp et développé par d'autres artistes du milieu surréaliste. La présentation de la dynamique historique du concept en question est enrichie d'une analyse de son potentiel symbolique, strictement lié à l'idée de la rencontre surréaliste proposée par André Breton.
