abstract in English:	In the age of socialist realism this mass song was a leading genre and many contemporary composers went in for it. The goal of mass songs which were „national in form and socialist in content‟ was to agitate for communism. The urban theme was most often chosen as the leading motif of such music. Songs praised the society rebuilding Warsaw that was destroyed during World War II, the industrial development of Silesian towns and, above all, Nowa Huta which took on the role of a symbol. The subject of the analysis is the way this metropolis lying near Cracow is presented in seven mass songs featured in a collection of poems „Pieśni o Nowej Hucie‟ published in 1952 by Edward Olearczyk.
