| abstract in English: | The article presents an analysis of a series of 38 archival photographs from the collections of the National Library in Warsaw. The photos were taken during a several-day tour to the Spišské Tatras. The route went through the highest peak in Poland Rysy and Zawrat Pass to Zakopane. Some photos were taken on the estate of doctor Tytus Chałubiński. In the 1870s Dr Chałubiński initiated collective high mountaineering tours in the Tatras, accompanied by numerous highlander guides, and even a band. One of such tours, organized most likely in July or August of 1886, was photographically documented. Also a garden party given by Dr Chałubiński in Zakopane was captured on photographs. The article takes the reader on a retrospective tour in time and space, bringing to life people and situations from the past. It has been possible not only to identify the majority of the people photographed but to correct wrong topographical locations as well. The article also discusses the most famous Polish highlander - Jan Krzeptowski Sabała. Although the photographs are attributed to the pioneer of Polish mountain photography - Awit Szubert, they were probably taken by an amateur. The article is based on iconographic sources and studies. |
