Abstract in English

The authors discuss the epidemiology, etiology, morphology, and staging of biliary stenoses and coexisting diseases. The best known classification of biliary stenosis, based on anatomic relationships and cholangiographic images, is described. Diagnostic approach, including both historical methods and modern imaging techniques such as ultrasound, computed tomography, endoscopic procedures, and magnetic resonance, are also presented.
