When compared with other languages used in Europe, also the Finno-Ugric ones, the Estonian-Polish lexicographical achievements are very limited. They are represented by two, qualitatively diverse, types of literature. The first group consists of works of educational character and tourist literature, and thus it can be described as quasi-lexicographical literature. These are two handbooks, which in their final part contain an Estonian-Polish and a Polish-Estonian mini-dictionary; three different editions of an Estonian phrasebook, which include thematic sets of vocabulary items; and finally a nonalingual mini-dictionary with 800 entries. The year 2000 constituted a breakthrough in the Estonian-Polish lexicography. Then An Estonian-Polish Dictionary containing ca. 10,000 entries was published in Cracow. In agreement with the accepted lexicological conventions, and contrary to the earlier works, the dictionary entries provide also grammatical information, e.g. the case, the conjugation type, or the verb collocations. It has so far been the most complete - though still rather modest - Estonian-Polish lexicographical work. A Polish-Estonian dictionary is still lacking, and so is a great dictionary which would take into consideration the lexis of both languages in the most comprehensive way. This gap may get fi lled out by two on-line dictionaries, in which the list of entries is constantly being updated.pl
