In 1883, Józef Rostafinski (1850-1928), a botanist and professor at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków (then Austria-Hungary), produced a survey regarding the name and use of plants in the former Polish territories, which was printed in around 60 newspapers. The most complete version of the questionnaire contained questions regarding approximately 130 species. One of the responses, by Roman Gutwiński (1860-1932), is presented in this article. When Gutwiński responded to the survey, he was an assistant of Rostafiński at the Jagiellonian University.
