Można go jednak uznać, wbrew wiodącej tendencji do wpisywania go w paradygmat dzieł ponowoczesnych o charakterze demaskatorskim, bazujących na wykorzystaniu "tajnych źródeł" w charakterze sensacji, za przykład ewokacji, zaszyfrowanej w obrazach, drogi ku nowej duchowej tożsamości. Jeśli Locus theologicus to m.in miejsca, w których ujawnia się pełniej natura człowieka i otwierają się przed nim nowe drogi do poznania (Boga czy prawdy o sobie samym), to w tej perspektywie Stygmaty można postrzegać jako przykład dzieła ilustrującego proces otwierania się jednostki na nieznany jej wymiar duchowości i jako swoistą "historię zbawienia" w jej obszarze osobowym, wewnętrznym, podmiotowym. Wnikliwsze przyjrzenie się homo- i ikonosferze filmu, zazwyczaj nie postrzeganego jako źródło teologicznego poznania, pozwala dopatrzyć się w nim elementów krypto teologicznych. W konfiguracji obrazów, detali o funkcji symbolicznej, kompozycji opartej o wyznacznik triady zaszyfrowana została droga jego bohaterki - Frankie Paige ku odkryciu "duchowej tożsamości" (w typie franciszkańskim), poprzez doświadczenie znaków Bożej ingerencji. Contrary to the leading tendency to treat it as a paradigm of postmodern works that are whistle-blowing in nature and based on the use of sensational "secret sources", it may however be regarded as an example of evocation encrypted in images, a path towards a new spiritual identity. If Locus theologicus means, among other things, the places in which human nature is fully revealed and in which new ways to find God or truth about the human open up, Stigmata may be perceived as an example of work illustrating the process of mind opening to an unknown dimension of spirituality and as a peculiar "history of salvation" in the personal, inner and subjective area of an individual. A deeper insight into the homosphere and iconosphere of the film that is not usually perceived as a source of theological cognition enables us to discern its crypto-theological elements. The film heroine's Frankie Paige's path towards finding her own "spiritual identity" (of the Franciscan type) through experiencing the signs of God's intervention was encrypted in the configuration of images, symbolic details and composition based on the triad determinant. Interpretation of the meaning of these crypto-theological elements proves the film's metaphysical structure with its climax in the Epilogue that directs us to Biblical metaphysics and indicates the experience of epiphany.
