A comparative study of the dramas The Roman Actor by Philip Massinger and "Lo fingido verdadero" by Lope de Vega is to present and examine the issues involved in the search for perfection in acting. Main protagonists in both plays cross the boundary between their role and their identity, which has tragic consequences. An important point of reference is "Fabula de homine" by Vives, a renaissance apology of acting as an art where the gods invite Man-Actor to Olympus.
