The paper discusses the model of Paul Kußmaul in the didactics of translation and focuses on the idea of creative translation. The theoretical framework of investigations into creativity in text and translation build cognitive theories, especially the scene-and-frames semantics proposed by Ch. J. Fillmore, and types / techniques of creative translations distinguished on the basis of this theory, which help to describe semantic modifications in translated texts such as changing of categories, picking out scene elements, enlarging a scene (introducing new element to an existing scene), changing scenes or thinking up a new scene. The aim of the analysis is the reconstruction of creative thinking and translation of semi-professional translators, the description of techniques of creative translations they use and the evaluation of proposed translation solutions, good, acceptable and unacceptable ones. The corpus of analysis consists of press and tourist texts and their translations into Polish.
