Analysis and assessment the phenomenon of working poor in Poland compared to the European Union

W artykule podjęto problematykę zjawiska woorking poor, czyli tzw. "biednych/ubogich pracujących" w Polsce na tle pozostałych państw członkowskich Unii Europejskiej. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest przedstawienie zależności między pracą a problemem biedy i/lub ubóstwa w kontekście zjawiska working poor, a w jego analizie i ocenie skoncentrowano się na określeniu poziomu i struktury "biednych/ubogich pracujących" na polskim rynku pracy. Sytuację "biednych pracujących" można przedstawić posiłkując się wynikami badań The European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions, a dzięki informacjom pozyskanym z bazy danych Eurostat możliwe jest przeprowadzenie porównywalnych analiz statystycznych. Na podstawie analizy sytuacji ludzi pracujących zaliczanych do grupy working poor w Polsce na tle Unii Europejskiej można stwierdzić, że wśród nich istnieje zjawisko biedy i ubóstwa. Podważa to pogląd, zgodnie, z którym zatrudnienie stanowi czynnik przeciwdziałający biedzie i ubóstwu.

The article discusses the phenomenon of working poor in Poland compared to other EU Member States. The aim of this study was to show the relationship between the work and the problem of poverty in the context of the phenomenon of working poor, and the analysis and evaluation focused on determining the level and structure of the working poor on the Polish labour market. The situation of working poor can be presented thanks to the results of the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions, and also the information obtained from the Eurostat database makes it possible to carry out comparable statistical analyzes. Based on the analysis of the situation of people included in the working poor group in Poland compared to the EU, it can be stated that the problem of poor and poverty exist among them. It undermines the view that employment is a factor that counteracts poor and poverty.
