Abstract in English
The article discusses the beginnings of psychotherapy in the Polish context. It aims at outlining the key historical facts and indicating the main conceptions that have shaped the development of modern Polish psycho therapy. Contrary to the common assumption, according to which psychoanalysis played a decisive role, the article shows that the so called moral therapy - le traitement moral - alongside a local version of hypnotism provided the original impetus for the psychotherapeutic movement in Poland.
