Digitization of library and archival collections is the answer, but what is the question?

Zainteresowanie ochroną i konserwacją najcenniejszych materiałów bibliotecznych i archiwalnych istnieje od dawna. Od niedawna tworzy się ich kopie w postaci elektronicznych dokumentów, co dodatkowo zwiększa możliwości dostępu do nich. W artykule zasygnalizowano najważniejsze problemy dotyczące tworzenia tego typu elektronicznych dokumentów, ich zalety i wady oraz zagrożenia. Zamieszczono też wnioski płynące z istniejącego polskiego piśmiennictwa na ten temat.

The interest in protection and preservation of the most precious library and archival materials has always existed. Recently, copies are made in the form of electronic files, which improves access to them. In this paper, we discuss selected issues of developing electronic document files, with the related strengths, weaknesses threats. We also draw conclusions on the existing Polish literature on the subject.
