Niniejsza rozprawa stawia sobie za cel ukazanie podstawowych aspektów procesu sakralizacji wyspy dokonującego się w prozie Juliusza Verne'a. We wstępie oraz w pierwszym rozdziale rozprawy autor przedstawia charakterystykę własnej postawy badawczej usytuowanej w szeroko pojętym nurcie badań nad wyobraźniowością (G. Durand, S. Vierne oraz M. Eliade). W późniejszych rozważaniach autora, nurt ten będzie reprezentowany szczególnie poprzez idee G. Duranda i M. Eliade. W zamyśle autora, tak szeroka prezentacja postawy badawczej stanowi punkt wyjścia do systematycznej analizy poszczególnych mechanizmów odpowiedzialnych za proces sakralizacji terytorium wyspowego (wyspa jako miejsce manifestacji hierofanii, symbolizm axis-mundi, miejsce regeneracji Wielkiego Czasu Mitycznego, terytorium wyspowe jako miejsce siedziby usytuowanej w symbolicznym « centrum świata », kompleks Jonasza, wyspa-ogród rajski) Ostatni wzmiankowany aspekt wydaje się szczególnie interesujący, gdyż pozwala wykazać ważną rolę zapachów (cynamon, kardamon i inne) w budowaniu obrazu literackiego rajskiej przestrzeni wyspowej. Zgodnie z zaproponowanym tytułem (Les paradis impossibles de Jules Verne : vers la mort de l'île symbolique), ostatni rozdział rozprawy poświęcony jest ukazaniu wszystkich aspektów niezgodnych z zarysowaną wcześniej perspektywą sakralizacji terytorium wyspowego. Zdaniem autora, powyższe aspekty mogą zostać ujęte w kategoriach « niemożności » (impossibilité) geograficznej, moralnej i ontologicznej rajów Juliusza Verne'a. Poprzez niemożność ontologiczną autor rozumie sytuację szczególnie jaskrawo przedstawioną w przypadku wyspy Antékirtta ukazanej w powieści Mathias Sandorf. Wyspa ta stopniowo traci swoje właściwości symboliczne aby stać się miejscem utopiii społecznej podporządkowanej dyktatowi logiki racjonalnej.

This dissertation is aimed at presenting basic aspects of island sacralisation that occurs in the prose by Julius Verne. In the introduction and the first chapter the author characterizes his own research approach, which belongs to a broad current of the imaginary (G. Durand, S. Vierne and M. Eliade). In the discussion that follows, this current will be represented especially by the ideas of G. Durand and M. Eliade. The author has conceived this broad presentation of the research approach as the starting point for the systematic analysis of individual mechanisms responsible for the process of the island territory sacralisation (an island as a manifestation place of hierofania, symbolism, axis-mundi, the regeneration place of the Great Mythical Time, the island territory as the seat located in the symbolic 'centre of the world', the Jonah complex and an island as a paradise garden). The last aspect seems to the particularly interesting, as it enables to show an important role of scents (cinnamon, cardamom) in developing the literary image of the paradise island space. According to the proposed title (Les paradis impossibles de Jules Verne : vers la mort de l'île symbolique), the last chapter of the dissertation is dedicated to showing all the aspects of disagreement with the previously sketched sacralisation perspective of the island territory. According to the author, the above-mentioned aspects may be included in the categories of the geographic, moral and ontological impossibility (impossibilité) of Julius Verne's paradises. The author understands the ontological impossibility to be the situation presented vividly by the Antékirtta island in the Mathias Sandorf novel. The island losses its symbolic characteristics gradually, to become the place of social utopia surrendered to the dictate of rational logic.

La présente étude prend pour objectif de montrer les aspects les plus importants de la sacralisation de l'île, processus symbolique qui s'esquisse dans la prose de Jules Verne. Dans l'introduction et dans le chapitre premier de l'étude, l'auteur présente son positionnement méthodologique situé dans le sillage des recherches sur l'imaginaire (G. Durand, S. Vierne, et M. Eliade). Dans toutes les réflexions ultérieures, ce courant sera surtout représenté par les idées de G. Durand et M. Eliade. Dans l'intention de l'auteur, une présentation aussi vaste de son positionnement méthodologique constitue un bon point de départ pour une analyse systématique des mécanismes fondateurs de sacralité insulaire : île comme lieu de manifestation d'hiérophanies, symbolisme axis-mundi, lieu de régénération du Grand Temps Mythique, lieu d'emplacement de la demeure humaine située « au centre du monde », complexe de Jonas et homologation entre l'île et le jardin paradisiaque. Le dernier aspect cité semble particulierement intéressant, car il permet de démontrer le rôle important des odeurs paradisiaques (cannelle, cardamone et autres) dans la construction de l'image littéraire des territoires paradisiaques verniens. Conformément au titre proposé (Les paradis impossibles de Jules Verne : vers la mort de l'île symbolique), le dernier chapitre de l'étude est consacré à mettre en lumière tous les aspects incompatibles avec la vision de la sacralisation de l'espace insulaire. Selon l'auteur, ces aspects peuvent être classés en catégories d'impossibilité géographique, morale et ontologique. Par impossibilité ontologique, l'auteur entend la situation présentée dans le cas de l'île Antékirtta mise en scène dans le roman Mathias Sandorf. Cette île prend progressivement ses qualités paradisiaques pour s'« utopiser », devenir lieu d'implantation d'utopie sociale assujettie au dictat d'une rationalité omniprésente.
