Chata za wsią by Zofia Mellerowa and Jan Kanty Galasiewicz, or romantic Gipsies by Kraszewski

Artykuł poświęcony jest realizacjom scenicznym powieści Józefa Ignacego Kraszewskiego pod tytułem Chata za wsią, w której ukazane zostały dzieje miłości Cygana Tumrego do wieśniaczki Motruny oraz los ich córki. Na podstawie tego utworu powstało wiele dramatów, a nawet opera i film. Analizie poddane zostały zwłaszcza dwa teksty - oba autorstwa Zofii Mellerowej i Jana Kantego Galasiewicza: Chata za wsią oraz Dziewczę z chaty za wsią. Koncentruję się zwłaszcza na wymiarze poetyckim obu dramatów: pieśniach i piosenkach, a także - wykreowanej w poetycki sposób - postaci Cyganki Azy.

The article is devoted to stage productions of Józef Kraszewski’s novel Chata za wsią (Cottage beside the village), which presents love story between Tumry, the Gypsy and Motruna, the village girl describing also their daughter’s life. On the basis of that novel there were several dramas written including the opera and the movie. Two of them were analysed above all, the ones written by Zofia Mellerowa and Jan Kanty Galasiewicz : Chata za wsią (Cottage beside the village) and Dziewczę z chaty za wsią (Girl from the cottage beside the village). The author centres upon a poetic dimension of both drama plays: songs and the character of Aza, the Gypsy girl, created in a very poetic way.
