About the heterogeneous nature of connotations

Our objective with this study is to present the specific nature of semantic connotations understood as these characteristics of lexical elements which evoke affective, emotional, evaluative or cultural associations in the users of any language. We would like to present a few of the multiple classifications and propose our own typology. This procedure will permit us to demonstrate that these hidden meanings in many cases are individual, nevertheless some of them can disseminate and be decoded in the same way by very numerous groups of people. Furthermore we would like to stress that these connotative attributes have highly complex structures and it is difficult to establish the fixed frames in which we could encompass them.

En el presente artículo nos proponemos teorizar sobre la naturaleza de las connotaciones semánticas, entendidas como aquellos valores de los elementos léxicos que pueden evocar en los usuarios asociaciones de tipo afectivo, emocional, valorativo o cultural. Presentaremos algunas de sus clasificaciones y propondremos nuestra propia tipología. Este procedimiento nos permitirá demostrar que estas cualidades no siempre tienen carácter individual, puesto que pueden difundirse y ser descifrables por muchos hablantes o -en ocasiones- por grupos muy numerosos de usuarios de la lengua. Asimismo, se resaltará que las connotaciones tienen una naturaleza muy compleja y es difícil englobarlas dentro de las estructuras fijas.
