Information security management in the SME sector : diagnosis and recommendations

Za cel badań przyjęto próbę ustalenia, czy i w jaki sposób przedsiębiorstwa innowacyjne zapewniają ochronę strategicznym zasobom informacji. W warstwie teoretycznej rozważań zdefiniowano podstawowe pojęcia dotyczące bezpieczeństwa informacji w przedsiębiorstwie. Warstwę empiryczną natomiast stanowi relacja z wywiadu diagnostycznego w trzech wybranych przedsiębiorstwach sektora małych i średnich przedsiębiorstw (MŚP), w toku którego starano się zidentyfikować faktyczne procedury i działania na rzecz przeciwdziałania ewentualnej nieuprawnionej zmianie, niepożądanemu wykorzystaniu, zniszczeniu, utracie istotnych informacji. Z diagnozy wynika, że zarządzanie bezpieczeństwem informacji w badanych organizacjach wymaga usprawnień. Materiał badawczy pozwolił sformułować wnioski i rekomendacje dotyczące zarządzania bezpieczeństwem informacji. W działania naprawcze należy włączyć menedżerów informacji, którzy zajmą się edukacją kadry, audytem zastanego systemu zarządzania informacją, opracują, pomogą wdrożyć i udoskonalić prototyp systemu zarządzania bezpieczeństwem informacji w firmie.

The purpose of the study was to determine whether and how innovative companies provide protection for key information resources. In the theoretical part of the discussion the basic concepts of information security in an enterprise were defined. The practical part is the result of the diagnostic interview in three selected SMEs, in which efforts were made to identify actual procedures and actions reducing possible unauthorized changes, undesirable use, destruction or loss of relevant information. The diagnosis shows that the management of information security in the researched institutions requires improvement. The research material provided the basis for formulating conclusions and recommendations regarding information security management. Corrective actions should incorporate information management professionals who will audit the existing information management system, and educate staff in this area; they will also develop, implement and improve the prototype of the information security management model within the company.
