The virtual archives

Tekst pierwotnie napisany w związku z II Międzynarodową Konferencją "Media a edukacja", która odbyła się w dniach 18-21 kwietnia 1998 roku w Poznaniu; w kolejnym numerze czasopisma (Archiwista Polski, 1998, r. 3, nr 4 (12), s. 120-125) opublikowana została "Bibliografia uzupełniająca" do artykułu.

Artykuł dotyczy możliwości zastosowania komputerowych metod informacji naukowej w archiwach (uczelnianych, szkolnych, publicznych itd.) oraz metod archiwizacji danych komputerowych. Przedmiotem badań są elektroniczne media informacyjne i współczesna technologia informacyjna w odniesieniu do potrzeb współczesnych użytkowników archiwów, którymi są głównie studenci, nauczyciele i naukowcy, a więc ludzie związani z dziedziną edukacji. Badania systematyzują metody tworzenia archiwów wirtualnych i bibliotek wirtualnych. W szczególności zaś autor wskazuje na podobieństwa i różnice naukowych metod komputeryzacji zbiorów specjalnych w archiwach i bibliotekach (rękopisy, fotografie, zbiory grafiki, nuty).

The object of his study is to present the possibilities of the introducing of computerized scientific information methods in archives (at universities, schools, public institutions etc.) and methods of the storing of the computer data. The subject of the research are electronic information media and the contemporary techniques of the operating software and hardware in relation to the needs of the archive users, who are mainly people working in the field of education i. e. students, teachers, and scholars. This study systematizes the ways in which the virtual archives are created. It presents the similiarities and differences of the virtual archives and libraries. Particularly, the author describes the similiarities and differences of the scientific methods of the computing of the data in the special collections in archives and libraries (manuscripts, photos, graphic collections, charts of musical works of art).
