Część druga na podstawie analizy źródeł proweniencji zarówno katolickiej jak i katarskiej przekonuje, że dualizm, zakorzeniony głęboko we wcześniejszych koncepcjach bogomilskich, odgrywał kluczową rolę w doktrynie katarskich doskonałych.

The book focuses on the issue of origins and doctrinal character of Catharism, which is getting more and more controversial in the recent years. The conclusions of the earlier historiography are nowadays questioned by the adherents of the deconstructionist school, who reject both the eastern origins of Catharism (Bogomil or Paulician) and dualistic character of it’s doctrines. They promote an alternative interpretation according to which Catharism was an evangelical heresy, that evolved from the 11th century dissident reform movements, trying to restore the Church to the purity of the early Christianity. Cathar dualism in this interpretation was arbitrary constructed by the Catholic polemists, trying to discredit their opponents and justify their persecution. To achieve this aim they imposed on the dissidents some obvious heretical errors taken from the scriptures of the Church Fathers (first of all from the anti-Manichaean writings of St. Augustine) and presented Catharism as well-organized and doctrinally defined heresy. Such a revolutionary interpretation led some of the most radical adherents of this school to the conclusion that Cathar heresy in fact never existed, and in consequence modern scholars shouldn’t even use the word "Cathars" but replace it with the word "dissidents". As the deconstructionist interpretation is growing more and more popular recently, the main aim of this book is to discuss the fundamental tenets on which it was built. The problems of origins and doctrinal identity of Catharism are closely related, because the analysis of the Cathar doctrines, and their comparison with the teachings of the earlier dualists can shed light on the issue of the origins of this heresy. The book is divided into two main parts - the first one focuses on the issue of origin, and second on the problem of the doctrinal identity and doctrinal evolution of the French Catharism.
