Wicca in the Polish Internet : field research report

Historia wicca w Polsce to jednocześnie historia wicca w polskim internecie i już sam ten fakt świadczy o wielkiej roli, jaką Sieć pełni dla polskich wyznawców. Powstawanie kolejnych stron, list dyskusyjnych i forów obrazuje rozwój wicca w Polsce oraz rosnącą popularność tej religii. Niniejszy artykuł stanowi raport z badań terenowych i przedstawia historię wicca w polskim internecie, prezentuje sytuację obecną i bada instytucję cyberkowenów. Całość osadzona jest w kontekście funkcjonowania wicca w globalnej sieci oraz w ramach koncepcji C. Hellanda, rozróżniającej religion online i online religion (ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem kowenów i rytuałów online). Podstawę artykułu stanowi analiza treści publikowanych w internecie przez polskich wiccan oraz badania terenowe (wywiady połączone z obserwacją uczestniczącą), prowadzone wśród polskich wiccan przez autorkę artykułu od lipca 2014 roku.

History of Wicca in Poland equals history of Wicca in Polish Internet - and this equation already shows, how important the World Wide Web is for the Polish believers. The number of websites, discussion lists and forums has been rising since mid-1990s, representing the development and growing popularity of this Neopagan religion. The article, based on field research, presents the history of Wicca on the net and the present situation in Poland, as well as the institution of cybercoven. Wicca in World Wide Web (mainly American) is considered as a broader context, along with Helland’s distinction between religion online and online religion (including, especially, online rituals and covens). The article is based on the analysis of the content published online by Polish believers and field research among Polish traditional wiccans, conducted by the author since July 2014.
