Education for peace in theory and practice of civic education in Gremany

Niniejszy tekst wynika z intencji zwrócenia uwagi na znaczenie wychowania do pokoju w procesie demokratyzacji życia społecznego w kontekście niemieckiej edukacji obywatelskiej dorosłych. System edukacji obywatelskiej na terenie Niemiec jest bardzo rozbudowany i skutecznie umacnia fundamenty demokratycznego państwa. Począwszy od zakończenia II wojny światowej aż do czasów obecnych dostrzec można zmieniające się w czasie funkcje społeczne oraz sensy i znaczenia edukacji obywatelskiej. Niezmienne powtarzają się jednak treści, które akcentują rozumienie wartości życia w pokoju, celowe działania na rzecz utrzymania pokoju i stworzenia gwarancji czyniących go trwałym, kształtowanie przekonań, iż nierówności społeczne są przyczyną konfliktów, a realizacja pokojowego ładu znajduje się w zasięgu każdego człowieka. Wszystkie te działania przenika humanistyczny sposób myślenia stanowiący podstawę do pokoju, które wciąż jest istotnym i aktualnym zobowiązaniem edukacyjnym, ale i społecznym. Życie w ponowoczesnym świecie pokazuje, że daleki jest on od pokojowego współistnienia. Wychowanie do pokoju wydaje się więc szczególnie pożądane we współczesnym świecie, nie ma bowiem alternatywy dla pokoju.

This thesis is aiming to draw attention to the importance of education for peace in the process of democratisation of social life in the context of civic education of adults in Germany. The civic education in Germany is very developed and effectively strengthens the foundations of this democratic nation. Starting from the end of the Second World War up to the present day, we can see social functions and meanings of civic education changing. Invariably, there exists the repeating content that emphasises understading of the value of life in peace, intentional actions to maintain peace and provide a guarantee of making it permanent, shaping beliefs that social inequalities are the cause of conflict and that achieving peaceful order is within reach of every human being. All these activities are permeated by the humanistic way of thinking, being the basis of education for peace, which is still an important and current commitment in educational and social space. Life in the postmodern world shows that it is far from peaceful coexistence. Education for peace seems particularly desirable in this modern world, as there is no other current alternative to peace.
