Powołał się na nie, snując legendę o "morzu" pod Tatrami, spuszczonym przez króla Bolesława Chrobrego, gdy przeciął on Pieniny i utworzył Przełom Dunajca. In the first half of the 19th century Ludwik Kamiński was the best expert in ethnography of the Podhale highlanders. His biography still hides secrets. His pioneer research of historical sources concerning the Podhale involves the riddle of the missing chronicles of the Nowy Targ region. Thanks to him, the poet and geographer Wincenty Pol had the chance to know their contents. He quoted the popular legend about of the "sea" around the Tatra Mountains - allegedly contained in those chronicles - which was drained by king Boleslaw Chrobry, after he carved the Pieniny Mountains and created the Dunajec River Gorge. This biographical, historical and literary essay includes a critical analysis of the present state of knowledge, and also brings in new findings and conclusions. It is based on relevant literature and archival materials.
