Celem artykułu jest przybliżenie metod pracy cenzorów (w tym placówek terenowych) z Centralnego Biura Kontroli Prasy, powstałego w styczniu 1945 r., następnie zaś przekształconego, w listopadzie 1945 r., w Główny Urząd Kontroli Prasy, Publikacji i Widowisk. W artykule dokonano próby zarysowania sylwetki statystycznego cenzora, z uwzględnieniem wieku, wykształcenia oraz przynależności do partii. Celem opracowania było również udzielenie odpowiedzi na następujące pytania: jaki wpływ mieli tzw. radzieccy doradcy z GŁAWLIT-u na proces tworzenia się cenzury instytucjonalnej na ziemiach polskich podczas II wojny? W jakich okolicznościach powstało Centralne Biuro Kontroli Prasy? Kim byli pierwsi cenzorzy? Z jakich środowisk/grup zawodowych się wywodzili? Według jakich kryteriów wybierano cenzorów tuż po powstaniu CBKP?

The aim of the article was to present the circumstances of the establishment and the scope of activities of the Central Office for Control of the Press, which was transformed into the Main Office for Control of the Press, Publications, and Public Performances in November 1945. The article is an attempt at answering the following questions: who were the first censors? From what communities/professional groups did they come? According to what criteria were the censors selected shortly after the founding of the Center? How did the so-called Soviet Glavlit advisors influence the process of the emergence of institutional censorship in the Polish territory during World War II? Under what circumstances was the Central Office for Control of the Press established?
