Amateur theater management. Terpsychora Dance Theater Case Study

Przedmiotem badania jest studium przypadku w dziedzinie zarządzania kulturą, skupiając się na aktywności amatorskiej Teatru Tańca Terpsychora. Celem jest sprawdzenie w jaki sposób osoby bez doświadczenia i wykształcenia podchodzą do kwestii kierowania dużym zespołem ludzi, jakie błędy mogą popełniać oraz jak przebiega ich proces rozwoju. Praca odpowiada na pytanie jakim sposobem zarządzane są teatry amatorskie, jakie są motywacje członków i członkiń należących do ugrupowań oraz czy miejsce teatrów amatorskich w kulturze i ich działalność różni się znacznie od teatrów profesjonalnych. Do napisania pracy wykorzystano literaturę fachową z dziedziny tańca, teatru oraz zarządzania. W badaniach zastosowano metodologię studium przypadku oraz techniki takie jak obserwacja, ankieta, wywiad, analiza dokumentów i treści. Zgodnie z założeniami w badanej instytucji intuicyjnie stosowane są elementy różnych technik zarządzania. Osoby członkowskie szukają w organizacji amatorskiej przede wszystkim samospełnienia i satysfakcji oraz zaspokojenia potrzeb społecznych lub rozwoju. Porównując te instytucje do profesjonalnych możemy zauważyć zarówno cechy wspólne, jak i zupełnie odmienne, ale pod względem organizacji działalności są one do siebie bardzo podobne.

The subject of the study is a case study in the field of culture management, focusing on the amateur activity of the Terpsychora Dance Theatre. The aim is to find out how people without experience and education approach the issue of managing a large team of people, what mistakes they can make and how their development process goes. The thesis answers questions of how amateur theaters are managed, what are the motivations of members of the group and whether the place of amateur theaters in culture and their activities differs significantly from professional theaters. Professional literature in the field of dance, theater and management was used to write the thesis. The research used case study methodology and techniques such as observation, survey, interview, document and content analysis. According to the assumptions, elements of various management techniques are intuitively applied in the examined institution. Members seek in an amateur organization primarily self-fulfillment and satisfaction as well as meeting social needs or self-development. Comparing this institution to professional one, we can notice both common and completely different features, but in terms of organization of activities, they are very similar to each other.
