Lexical borrowings from English and Arabic in French rap songs

Hip-hop, czyli ruch kulturowo-artystyczny, który wykracza poza muzykę, oraz rap, forma ekspresji muzycznej dla młodej, niezrozumianej i nieuprzywilejowanej młodzieży, narodziły się w latach 70. w biednych dzielnicach Nowego Jorku. Stały się globalnym fenomenem, silnie wpływając na kulturę popularną na całym świecie, w tym we Francji. Dlatego są one również głównym źródłem zapożyczeń językowych dla francuskich raperów. Ponadto, ze względu na dużą liczbę arabskojęzycznych imigrantów we Francji, język arabski jest obecny we francuskim społeczeństwie, wpływając tym samym na jego język. W związku z tym niniejsza praca poświęcona jest analizie zapożyczeń językowych z języka angielskiego i arabskiego, a także związanych z nimi procesów językowych, pojawiających się w piosenkach dwóch francuskich raperów: PLK i Black M.

Hip-hop, a cultural and artistic movement that goes beyond music, and rap, a form of musical expression for a young, misunderstood and underprivileged generation, were born in the 1970s in poor urban districts of New York. They have become a global phenomenon, strongly influencing popular culture the world over, including in France. That is why they are the main source of linguistic borrowings for French rappers. Moreover, due to the large number of Arabic-speaking immigrants in France, Arabic is present in French society and influences its language. Consequently, this study is dedicated to the analysis of linguistic borrowings from English and Arabic, as well as the associated linguistic processes, appearing in the songs of two French rappers: PLK and Black M.

Le hip-hop, mouvement culturel et artistique qui dépasse la musique, et le rap, forme d'expression musicale d'une population jeune, incomprise et défavorisée, sont nés dans les années 1970 dans les pauvres quartiers de New York. Ils sont devenus un phénomène mondial et ont fortement influencé la culture populaire du monde entier, y compris celle de la France. C’est pourquoi ils sont aussi devenus la principale source d'emprunts linguistiques pour les rappeurs français. De plus, en raison du grand nombre d'immigrés arabophones en France, l'arabe est présent dans la société française et influence sa langue. Par conséquent, cette étude est consacrée à l'analyse des emprunts linguistiques à l'anglais et à l'arabe, ainsi qu'aux processus linguistiques associés, apparaissant dans les chansons de deux rappeurs français : PLK et Black M.
