The article analyzes the phenomenon of "Central Europe" with reference to the famous essay by Milan Kundera. It describes the changes and political transformations of the entire region after 1989. The author emphasizes the fact that western Ukraine is part of Central Europe, and the influence of Central European political culture gradually reached the eastern and southern parts of the country. The Russian invasion of Ukraine forces us to redefine the security concept of the entire region and build an alliance system in the context of the current plans and activities of NATO.
