Selected forms of cultural and educational activities of diplomatic missions on the example of the US Embassy and Consulate in Poland in the context of the contemporary reception of American culture - an attempt at a preliminary analysis

Tematem pracy są wybrane formy działalności kulturalno-edukacyjnej placówek dyplomatycznych na przykładzie ambasady i konsulatu USA w Polsce. Praca odnosi się do teorii pedagogicznych m.in do wielokulturowości i pedagogiki kultury. W pracy zanalizowano literaturę naukową skoncentrowaną wokół recepcji kultury amerykańskiej w Polsce od czasów Zimnej Wojny oraz działalność dyplomatyczną USA na terenie Polski w tym okresie. Dokonano wstępnej analizy działań misji dyplomatycznej USA w Polsce, do których zaliczyć można programy edukacyjne i kulturowe oraz ich obecność w mediach społecznościowych. Praca zawiera również propozycje poprawy funkcjonowania misji dyplomatycznej w kontekście tematyki badań. Analiza wykazała że formy działalności kulturalno-edukacyjnej badanych placówek są różnorodne, dostosowane do współczesnego odbiorcy, wykorzystują najnowsze osiągnięcia technologiczne a także często nawiązują do historii i tradycji kultury amerykańskiej.

The topic of the master's thesis is selected forms of cultural and educational activities of diplomatic missions on the example of the US embassy and consulate in Poland. The work refers to pedagogical theories including: multiculturalism and cultural pedagogy. The work analyzes scientific literature focused on the reception of American culture in Poland since the Cold War and US diplomatic activities in Poland during this period. A preliminary analysis was made of the activities of the US diplomatic mission in Poland, which include educational and cultural programs and their presence in social media. The work also contains proposals for improving the functioning of the diplomatic mission in the context of the research topic. The analysis showed that the forms of cultural and educational activities of the surveyed institutions are diverse, adapted to contemporary recipients, use the latest technological achievements and often refer to the history and traditions of American culture.
