The value of complex therapy for a child with autism spectrum disorders. Case study

Na przestrzeni ostatnich kilkudziesięciu lat obserwuje się wzrost osób z rozpoznaniem ASD, określany często mianem „epidemii autyzmu”. Złożoność problemów wynikających ze spektrum autyzmu wymaga holistycznego podejścia diagnostycznego i terapeutycznego, możliwego do uzyskania dzięki współpracy wielu specjalistów. Celem niniejszej pracy było dokonanie teoretycznej i empirycznej charakterystyki zaburzeń ze spektrum autyzmu oraz próba ocenienia efektów wielokierunkowej terapii na podstawie studium przypadku. W pracy zwrócono szczególną uwagę na funkcjonowanie dzieci z ASD we wczesnym dzieciństwie, przedstawiając przypadek 4-letniego dziecka w spektrum autyzmu. W części teoretycznej scharakteryzowano obowiązujące klasyfikacje diagnozy autyzmu oraz specyfikę rozwoju komunikacyjnego i poznawczego dziecka z ASD. Poddano również refleksji zagadnienie komunikacji osób ze spektrum autyzmu z perspektywy lingwistycznej oraz aspekt komunikacji alternatywnej i wspomagającej. Kolejne rozdziały poświęcone zostały prezentacji i analizie wyników badań własnych na temat procesu terapeutycznego dziecka ze spektrum autyzmu. Ocena osiągniętych postępów możliwa była dzięki wykorzystaniu Skali Oceny Autyzmu dziecięcego (CARS). Opisany w pracy przypadek naświetla wagę trudności rozwojowych występujących u dzieci z ASD z głębokimi zaburzeniami językowymi.

Over the last few decades, there has been an increase in people diagnosed with ASD, often referred to as the 'autism epidemic'. The complexity of problems arising from the autism spectrum requires a holistic diagnostic and therapeutic approach, made possible by the collaboration of multiple professionals. The aim of the present study was to make a theoretical and empirical characterisation of autism spectrum disorders and to attempt to assess the effects of multidirectional therapy based on a case study. This master's degree focuses on the functioning of children with ASD in early childhood, presenting the case of a 4-year-old child on the autism spectrum. In the theoretical part, the current classifications of autism diagnosis and the specificity of communicative and cognitive development of a child with ASD were characterised. The topic of communication of persons on the autism spectrum from a linguistic perspective and the aspect of alternative and assistive communication were also discussed. The following chapters were devoted to the presentation and analysis of the results of own research on the therapeutic process of a child on the autism spectrum. The assessment of the progress achieved was made possible through the use of the Child Autism Rating Scale (CARS).
