Abstract in English
The main aim of the present paper is to analyse some peculiarities of modal uses of the structure "poder" + infinitive in medieval notarial documentation (13th-15th c.) from Galicia. By means of an analysis based on data extracted from the corpus "Tesouro Medieval da Lingua Galega", the study investigates the influence of the legal character of the database on the distribution of the three basic modal values, i.e., the dynamic, deontic and epistemic ones and on the verb forms in which the structure in question is found.

El presente artículo tiene por objetivo identificar y analizar algunas peculiaridades de los empleos modales de la estructura "poder" + infinitivo en la documentación notarial gallega de la Edad Media (ss. XIII-XV). Mediante un análisis basado en datos procedentes del corpus "Tesouro Medieval da Lingua Galega", tratamos de averiguar la influencia de la tradición discursiva en la distribución de los tres valores modales básicos expresados mediante ese complejo verbal y en las formas verbales adoptadas por el verbo poder.
