An individual „in” or „out of” the country? Aspects of individualism based on the analysis of selected philosophical concepts

Przedmiotem pracy jest zagadnienie indywidualizmu metodologicznego, politycznego i filozoficznego oraz próba odpowiedzi na pytanie czy indywidualizm jednostki da się pogodzić z jej funkcjonowaniem w państwie. Pojęcie indywidualizmu jest ściśle związane z pojęciem wolności jednostki, dlatego również temu zagadnieniu poświęcono wiele miejsca. Analizując problem dotyczący ograniczeń wolności jednostki jakie niesie ze sobą życie w społeczeństwie, krytyce został poddany również ustrój demokratyczny. W pracy zestawiono i przeanalizowano idee Thomasa Hobbesa, Alexisa de Tocqueville, Johna Stuarta Milla, Ayn Rand i Friedricha Nietzsche. Oparto się na literaturze źródłowej, opracowaniach takich autorów jak m.in: A. Laurent, P. Manent, Q. Skinner, L. Strauss, M. Środa. Wykorzystano liczne materiały z dziedziny historii filozofii, słowniki i leksykony oraz inne dostępne publikacje. Praca została podzielona na trzy rozdziały z podrozdziałami.

The subject of the Master's thesis is the issue of methodological, political and philosophical individualism and an attempt to answer the question whether the individualism of an individual can be reconciled with its functioning in any community. The concept of individualism is closely related to the concept of individual freedom, which is why a lot of space has been devoted to this issue. Analyzing the problem of the limitations of individual freedom that life in society brings, the democracy as a political system was also criticized. The thesis summarizes and analyzes the ideas of Thomas Hobbes, Alexis de Tocqueville, John Stuart Mill, Ayn Rand and Friedrich Nietzsche. It was based on source literature, studies made by such authors as: A. Laurent, P. Manent, Q. Skinner, L. Strauss, M. Środa. Also numerous materials on the history of philosophy, dictionaries and lexicons as well as other available publications were used. The thesis has been divided into three chapters with subchapters.
