The method of depicting the Troparion "In the grave with the body" in the Orthodox art of the XVI-XVII centuries

Cykl troparionu W grobie z ciałem pojawił się w malarstwie prawosławnym w XVI wieku. Był znany w Rosji i na Bałkanach, występował w ikonach, malowidłach ściennych i iluminowanych rękopisach. Najczęściej był malowany na ścianach narteksu i protesis, co wynikało z eschatologicznych i funeralnych treści pieśni. Cykl ten składa się zazwyczaj z 4 scen: Opłakiwanie, Zstąpienie do piekieł, Chrystus z dobry łotrem w raju oraz Trójca Święta.

The cycle of tropar "In the grave with the body" appeared in Orthodox painting in the XVI century. It was known in Northern Russia and the Balkans, in icon, mural painting and illuminated manuscripts. Most often it was painted on the walls of narthex and prothesis. This placement was connected with the funeral meaning and eschatological sense of the song. This cycle usually consists of 4 scenes: Lamentation, Descent into Hell, Christ with the Good Thief in Paradise and The Holy Trinity.
