The image of Fedosya Morozova in Vladimir Lichutin's novel "The Raskol" and Vasily Surikov's painting "Boyarina Morozova"

The theme of the Russian orthodox church schism of the XVII century, despite the historical significance of this event, is not often present in the works of art of Russian authors. The most significant examples are found in painting and literature. The article examines the image of one of the most important participants of the events of that period, boyar Feodosia Morozova, presented in two works of Russian culture – the famous painting by Vasily Surikov „Boyarina Morozova” and the novel "The Raskol" by the modern novelist Vladimir Lichutin. The analysis revealed obvious similarities of the images, due to the fact that for the writer, the artist’s picture became a kind of inspiration, although he, using the features of the literary text, significantly expanded the context of the scene depicted by Vasily Surikov.
