This article is an attempt to explore the presence of quotes and references to Adam Mickiewicz's drama Dziady in Kuzmány's novel Ladislav. The reference to Mickiewicz does not end in the Slovak author's text only with the presentation of the Polish protagonists of the work, but is also a question about the usefulness of the Polish model of Romanticism for Slovak literature. The genre refers to the drama of Mickiewicz and their place in the novel's plot, which testify to a very careful reading of the Polish bard. The answer to the question about the usefulness of the Polish model of romanticism and its value for Slovak culture remains negative. It is a product of both the political views of the Slovak author (he was a Pan-Slavist and he assessed the Polish November Uprising very negatively as a the fratricidal struggle within the Slavic region) and his aesthetic views – the Polish Romanticism exemplified by Mickiewicz was in terms of aesthetics and philosophy, too radical for him.
