Ancient Greek masonry

Praca ta opisuje stanowiska archeologiczne związane z wydobyciem i obróbką kamienia oraz jego użyciem w budownictwie na terenach Grecji od epoki brązu do okresu rzymskiego. Opisane zostały w niej rodzaje stanowisk, w których wydobywano kamień. Poruszone zostały także zagadnienia związane z technikami oraz charakterem prac kamieniarzy w kamieniołomach. Omówiono również zakres prac wykonywanych na takich stanowiskach oraz rodzaje prac z wydobytymi już blokami skalnymi w kamieniołomie. Przedstawione i opisane zostały także źródła archeologiczne pomocne w badaniu tego zagadnienia. Przedstawiono także historię wydobycia kamienia na tych terenach oraz historię badań nad tym zagadnieniem. Praca skupia się także nad losami wydobytych już bloków skalnych w aspekcie zastosowania ich do budowy. Opisane zostają techniki budowlane związane z kamieniem oraz źródła archeologiczne w tych samych ramach chronologicznych, co omawiane są kamieniołomy i praca w nich. Następnie przedstawiono przykłady budowli skonstruowanych za pomocą wcześniej opisanych technik oraz surowców.

This work describes archaeological sites related to the extraction and processing of stone and its use in construction in Greece from the Bronze Age to the Roman period. The types of archaeological sites where the stones have been extracted were described. Issues related to the techniques and nature of the work of stonemasons in quarries were also discussed, as well as tthe scope of work performed in such sites. The types of work performed with the already excavated rock blocks in the quarry are also presented. The author presents also the archaeological sources helpful in researching this issues. The history of stone mining in these areas and the history of research on this issue are also described. The work also focuses on the fate of the already excavated rock blocks in terms of their intended use for construction. Building techniques related to stone are described in the same chronological framework as quarries and work in them. Archaeological sources helpful in researching this issue were also presented and described. Then, examples of buildings constructed with the implementation of techniques and raw materials described previously are presented.
