W epoce regencji kobiety musiały podporządkować się mężczyznom i były od nich uzależnione. Celem mojej rozprawy jest analiza ograniczeń i uwarunkowań, które kształtowały życie kobiet z angielskiej warstwy ziemiańskiej w XIX wieku oraz analiza ich zachowania w powieściach Jane Austen: ,,Duma i uprzedzenie" oraz ,,Rozważna i romantyczna". Tematem pierwszego rozdziału jest rzeczywistość w której żyły i oczekiwania, które je ograniczały. Drugi rozdział podejmuje tematykę rozumu i uczuć jako czynników decydujących o ich wyborach życiowych.
Regency women were expected to be subordinated to men and rather dependent on them. The aim of my thesis is to analyse the limitations and conditions of the lives of the characters from the landed gentry in the 19th century and to discuss their behaviour in Jane Austen's novels: Pride and Prejudice, and Sense and Sensibility. The first chapter focuses on the constraints which shaped their lives. The second chapter discusses the dichotomy of the reason and emotions as the crucial factors that shaped their life choices.
