Expectations of a romantic relationship, the level of intimacy and relationship satisfaction as predictors of psychological well-being of young women and men.

Relacje romantyczne mają kluczowe znaczenie dla optymalnego funkcjonowania w okresie wyłaniającej się dorosłości. Celem niniejszej pracy magisterskiej było sprawdzenie zależności pomiędzy oczekiwaniami wobec związku romantycznego, poziomem intymności i satysfakcji ze związku oraz dobrostanem psychicznym młodych kobiet i mężczyzn. Wykorzystano narzędzia takie jak Kwestionariusz oczekiwań wobec relacji romantycznych, Kwestionariusz do opisu swojego własnego związku romantycznego, Skala Intymności, Skala Satysfakcji ze Związku oraz Skale Dobrostanu Psychologicznego. Przebadano łącznie 101 osób pozostających w związkach romantycznych (61 kobiet i 40 mężczyzn). Analiza otrzymanych wyników wykazała, że poziom intymności koreluje dodatnio zarówno z satysfakcją ze związku, jak też z dobrostanem psychicznym. Potwierdzono, że istnieje korelacja pomiędzy poziomem satysfakcji ze związku oraz poziomem dobrostanu psychicznego. Uzyskano istotne statystycznie różnice między kobietami a mężczyznami w zakresie oczekiwań wobec związku romantycznego oraz poziomu intymności. Analiza różnic międzypłciowych nie wykazała natomiast istotnych efektów dla zmiennych takich jak rzeczywiste doświadczenia w obecnym związku, poziom rozbieżności między oczekiwaniami a rzeczywistymi doświadczeniami we własnej relacji, satysfakcja ze związku oraz dobrostan psychiczny. Dodatkowo wykazano, że poziom rozbieżności między oczekiwaniami a rzeczywistością w związku romantycznym koreluje negatywnie zarówno z satysfakcją ze związku, jak też z dobrostanem psychicznym. Istotnymi predyktorami dobrostanu psychicznego osób badanych okazały się być oczekiwania wobec relacji romantycznej oraz satysfakcja ze związku.

Romantic relationships are critical to optimal functioning in emerging adulthood. The aim of this thesis was to check the associations between expectations of a romantic relationship, the level of intimacy and satisfaction with the relationship, and the psychological well-being of young women and men. Tools such as the Expectations Questionnaire, the Reality Questionnaire, the Social Intimacy Scale, the Relationship Assesment Scale and the Psychological Well-Being Scales were used. A total of 101 people in romantic relationships (61 women and 40 men) were examined. Analysis of the obtained results showed that the level of intimacy positively correlates with both satisfaction with the relationship and psychological well-being. It was also confirmed that there is a correlation between the level of satisfaction with the relationship and the level of psychological well-being. Statistically significant differences were obtained between men and women in terms of expectations of a romantic relationship and the level of intimacy. Analysis of gender differences, however, did not show significant effects for variables such as actual experiences in the current relationship, the level of discrepancy between expectations and actual experiences in one's own relationship, relationship satisfaction and psychological well-being. Additionally, it was shown that the level of discrepancy between expectations and reality in a romantic relationship negatively correlates with both satisfaction with the relationship and psychological well-being. Significant predictors of the psychological well-being turned out to be expectations of the romantic relationship and satisfaction with the relationship.
