Tarot readings in the age of the Internet

Karty tarota na przestrzeni lat ulegały wielu modyfikacjom pod wpływem zmian zachodzących na świecie. Zmieniał się skład ich talii, jej wygląd oraz cel, do jakiego były wykorzystywane. Początkowo tarot był grą hazardową, jednak w XV w. zaczęto z niego wróżyć, do czego współcześnie ogranicza się jego funkcję. Obecnie talia jak i ilustracje na kartach są ustandaryzowane, jednak zmianom podlega sam sposób wróżenia. Różnice te wynikają z wykorzystania do wróżenia mediów takich jak telewizja czy Internet. Tematem mojej pracy są właśnie zmiany jakie współcześnie zaszły we wróżeniu z kart tarota pod wpływem rozwoju technologicznego. Mojej analizie poddałam telewizyjne wróżby z kart tarota oraz przede wszystkim wróżby internetowe. W tym celu omówiłam wróżby, jakie możemy znaleźć w odpowiednich programach telewizyjnych, stronach www przeznaczonych do pozyskiwania wróżb, forach internetowych, Facebooku, YouTube’ie, Instagramie oraz Tiktoku. Każde z podanych mediów wywarło wpływ na wróżby z kart tarota, które w rezultacie znacznie różnią się od wróżb tradycyjnych przy jednoczesnej próbie zachowania oryginalnej formy wróżenia.

Over the years tarot cards were modified because of changes that took place in the world. The changes could be seen among the decks and the aim of using cards. At the beginning tarot used to be a gambling game but in the XV century people started to read tarot in order to predict the future, which is now the only way to use tarot cards. Nowadays decks and cards illustrations are standardized but the reading has changed. The differences comes from using different media to connect with people who wants to have their future predicted by tarot cards. The subject of my text is to show the influence of technology on tarot reading. I analysed tarot predictions that are seen on television and on the Internet. I described tarot readings from telecasts, www sites, internet forums, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. Each one of them had impact on tarot readings, which are now much different than what it originally was, while trying to maintain its traditional form.
