Przedmiotem pracy licencjackiej jest analiza motywu lustra wykorzystanego w powieści Georges’a Rodenbacha „Bruges-Umarłe”. Motyw został przedstawiony pod postacią licznych analogii i podobieństw, które można zaobserwować na przykładzie głównego bohatera oraz jego relacji z postaciami kobiecymi: zmarłą żoną, jej sobowtórem Jane Scott, służącą Barbe oraz miastem Bruges. Pierwszy rozdział pracy skupia się na sposobie, w jaki motyw przejawia się w wyobraźni oraz wyjaśnia, dlaczego Rodenbach wybrał Bruges jako niezbędną postać powieści. Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest analizie relacji między postaciami a miastem, które stają się swoimi wzajemnymi odbiciami.

The aim of the bachelor`s thesis is the analysis of a mirror motif used in “Bruges-La-Morte” by Georges Rodenbach. The motif was presented in the form of numerous analogies and similarities, which can be observed on the example of the protagonist and his relations with the females characters: his late wife, her double Jane Scott, the servant Barbe and the city of Bruges. The first chapter focuses on how the motif manifests itself in the imagination and explains why Rodenbach chose Bruges, the eponymous city, as the essential character of the novel. The second chapter is devoted to the analysis of the relations between the characters and the city, which become their mutual reflections.

Le but du mémoire de licence est d'analyser le motif du miroir utilisé dans Bruges-la-Morte de Georges Rodenbach. Le motif a été présenté sous la forme de nombreuses analogies et des ressemblances, qui peuvent être observées sur l`exemple du protagoniste et de ses relations avec les personnages féminins : sa femme défunte, sa sosie Jane Scott, la servante Barbe et la ville de Bruges. Le premier chapitre se concentre sur la façon, dont le motif se manifeste dans l'imaginaire et explique pourquoi Rodenbach a choisi Bruges, la ville éponyme, en tant que le personnage essentiel du roman. Le deuxième chapitre est consacré à l'analyse de la relation entre les personnages et la ville, qui deviennent leurs reflets mutuels.
