Creating stars in 1950s and 1970s America. Based on two adaptations of "A Star Is Born"

Praca omawia historię społeczną amerykańskich kobiet, między latami 50. a 70. XX wieku, ukazując ją na przykładzie przedstawień filmowych w dwóch wybranych adaptacjach tej samej opowieści, zatytułowanej "Narodziny gwiazdy". Pierwsza z produkcji z roku 1954 w reżyserii George’a Cukora, a druga stworzona przez Franka Piersona w 1976. Merytoryczna część pracy omawia kwestie historyczne oraz zarysowuje transformacje w amerykańskim kinie. Ostatni rozdział opisuje kinowe przedstawienia postaci kobiecych i analizuje korelację między realną sytuacją kobiet w Stanach Zjednoczonych między latami 50. a 70. XX wieku a ich filmowymi reprezentacjami.

The thesis discusses the social history of American women between the 1950s and 1970s by showing it on the example of two film productions – adaptations of the same story, titled "A Star Is Born" – one directed by George Cukor in 1954, the other by Frank Pierson in 1976. The substantive section of the thesis focuses on historical background and outlines the transformations in American cinema. The last chapter introduces the depictions of female characters in film and analyzes the correlation between the real situation of women in the United States between the 1950s and 1970s and their cinematic representations.
