Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto, as one of the most eminent works of the European Renaissance, and undoubtedly accepted as the «flagship» masterpiece of the Golden Age, is mostly and preferably researched by historians of literature. Anna Klimkiewicz presents the Ariosto’s masterpiece in an anthropological perspective. In the spotlight is the substance so vital for the Italian narrative poetry and the worldview described there: the manner in which Ariosto grasps the situation of man condemned to committing and persisting in mistakes, doomed to eternal seeking of truth in his life, of a fair purpose of one’s existence and right paths to it, and also to uncertainty as to his own decisions and senses. The book represents peculiar and valuable vote in discussion over the Ariosto’s masterpiece and will undeniably significantly contribute to better understanding of literature and culture of the Italian Renaissance in Poland, inter alia because it is not an impervious study, intended exclusively for a limited group of experts, but it bears plenty of generic information and insights, that will certainly make the work a required and useful academic reading for those interested in matters of the Renaissance culture.
