Wegetarianizm i feminizm we współczesnej literaturze o wampirach

Każdego roku wzrasta liczba ludzi, którzy decydują się na zmianę diety, na wegańską lub wegetariańską, zaś problem złego traktowania zwierząt jest tematem wielu kampanii. Wampiry, postacie pojawiające się często w fikcji, również uległy zmianie, z bezlitosnych stworzeń ewoluowały w postacie, które w większości próbują nie czynić krzywdy i żyć w zgodzie z innymi gatunkami. Celem tej pracy jest ukazanie jak przedstawiony jest wegetarianizm i feminizm we współczesnej literaturze o wampirach. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiam krótką historie wampirów w literaturze następnie skupiam się na istocie wegetarianizmu i jego odbiciu w wybranych powieściach. Następnie na przykładzie żeńskich postaci rozważam feminizm i jego wpływ na postacie kobiece, które z pasywnych i bezradnych stały się charakterami aktywnymi i pełnymi siły. Analizując miłosne wybory protagonistek rozważam, jakie cechy posiada idealny partner bohaterek, i być może, czytelniczek zainteresowanych tym typem literatury.

Vegetarianism and feminism are two incredibly important to our society, movements. Each year number of people who identify themselves as vegetarians increases; the problem of mistreating animals is a topic of several campaigns. Not surprisingly also vampires which appear in contemporary written fiction have changed. They evolved from evil, cruel creatures to so-called “vampire vegetarians” creatures which in great majority try not to hurt other species, casting pacifism. The aim of this thesis is to present how the contemporary vampire stories reflect vegetarianism and feminism; in the first chapter of this work, I present the history of the vampire stories and briefly discuss how they evolved into non-violent creatures from the recently published stories. In the second chapter, I focus on vegetarianism, its importance, and reflection in the vampire narratives. As in fiction one can see many social issues, therefore in the next chapter, I discuss the feminist movement. I take a closer look into female characters visible in vampire fiction; how the heroines changed from passive and helpless characters to active and strong women. Therefore I touch upon the topic of women's desires and needs, I discuss how vampire characters may represent the ideal partners of the heroines and readers who are interested in this type of fiction.
