Representations of transgender people in selected Latin American films 2014-2019

Celem pracy było przedstawienie reprezentacji osób transpłciowych w wybranych filmach latynoamerykańskich w latach 2014-2019. Zwrócono uwagę na wykluczenie społeczne z jakim nieustannie spotykają się takie osoby. Omówiona została płeć w kulturze, między innymi rozróżnienie na płeć biologiczną i kulturową, społeczno- kulturowy wymiar płci, a także tożsamość płciowa w krajach zachodnich. Uwzględniono również latynoamerykańską kulturową wizji płci (machismo oraz marianismo). Wyjaśniono także terminologię związaną z różnorodnością płciową.Ameryka Łacińska jest regionem, gdzie do zabójstw na tle transfobicznym dochodzi bardzo często. Wydarzenia na świecie związane z pandemią COVID- 19 mają wpływ na wzrost nietolerancji, powodują pogorszenie sytuacji osób transpłciowych. Oba wątki zostały podjęte w rozprawie.Scharakteryzowano również kino queer, przedstawiono jego historię, ze szczególnym zwróceniem uwagi na latynoamerykańskie produkcje, które w ostatnich latach cieszą się popularnością. W pracy skupiono się na trzech filmach ( "Fantastyczna kobieta", "Carmin Tropical", "Everybody changes"), wpisujących się w latynoamerykańską kulturę popularną, a które doczekały się wielu nagród.

The aim of this study was to present the representation of transgender people in selected Latin American films between 2014 and 2019. Attention was drawn to the social exclusion that such people constantly face. It discusses gender in culture, including the distinction between biological and cultural sex, the socio-cultural dimensions of gender, and gender identity in Western countries. Latin American cultural visions of gender (machismo and marianismo) are also included. Terminology related to gender diversity is also explained.Latin America is a region where transphobic killings are very common. The world events related to the COVID- 19 pandemic have an impact on the increase of intolerance, cause deterioration of the situation of transgender people. Both threads were taken up in this paper. Queer cinema has also been characterized and its history presented, with special attention paid to Latin American productions which have enjoyed popularity in recent years. The paper focuses on three films ("A Fantastic Woman", "Carmin Tropical", "Everybody Changes") that are part of the Latin American popular culture and have received numerous awards.
