The image of masculinity in new media. Violent fantasies in the discourse of the manosphere and alt-right circles

Tematem niniejszej pracy jest problematyka wizerunków męskości w przestrzeni nowych mediów, z wyszczególnieniem analizy dyskursu manosfery i środowisk skrajnie prawicowych funkcjonujących w przestrzeni Internetu. Podstawową kwestią do ujawnienia jest odpowiedź na wątpliwości dotyczące tego w jaki sposób prowadzona jest narracja wirtualnych społeczności o silnie ugruntowanych poglądach, jak za pomocą nowych mediów budowana jest wspólna tożsamość internetowa, a także jakie są konsekwencje takiego zjawiska w odniesieniu do problematyki baniek informacyjnych i postępującej polaryzacji poglądów. Celem odpowiedzi na postawione pytania, poddałam analizie wpisy użytkowników z trzech platform internetowych: 4chan.org, Reddit.com oraz Wykop.pl, zwracając uwagę na tkwiącą w badanej tkance społeczeństwa agresję, gniew, celową lub być może bezwarunkową prowokację oraz sprecyzowanie za pomocą zgromadzonych źródeł charakteru dyskursu i ewentualnych jego następstw.

This thesis raises the subject of images of masculinity in the spaces of new media, with particular emphasis on the analysis the discourse of the manosphere and alt-right circles operating in the Internet space. The basic issue to reveal is the answer to doubts concerning the way in which the narration of virtual communities with strongly established views is conducted, how a common Internet identity is constructed by means of new media, and what are the consequences of such a phenomenon in relation to the problem of information bubbles and the progressing polarization of views. In order to answer the questions posed, I analyzed user posts from three online platforms: 4chan.org, Reddit.com and Wykop.pl, paying attention to the aggression, anger, intentional or perhaps unconditional provocation inherent in the fabric of the studied society, and specifying through the collected sources the nature of the discourse and its possible consequences that the studied communities mutually support.
