“Till we have faces. A myth retold” as a summary of C.S. Lewis’ literary and philosophical works

Celem pracy jest wykazanie, że ostatnią powieść C.S. Lewisa, pt. „Dopóki mamy twarze. Mit opowiedziany na nowo” można uznać za summę jego twórczości i myśli filozoficznej. Autorka przeprowadza całościową analizę powieści, odwołując się do eseistyki i pozostałych dzieł Lewisa, korzysta ponadto z założeń psychologii analitycznej C.G. Junga oraz filozofii chrześcijańskiej (augustynizmu i tomizmu). Interpretacja uświadamia, że powieściowa transformacja mitu o Erosie i Psyche jest w rzeczywistości psychologiczną opowieścią o epifanii i nawróceniu, w której Lewis powtarza najważniejsze tezy swoich esejów i powraca do tematów prezentowanych we wcześniejszych dziełach.

The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate that “Till we have faces. A myth retold”, C.S. Lewis’ last novel, may be read as a summary of his literary and philosophical works. The author makes a comprehensive analysis of the novel in reference to C.S. Lewis’ essays and his other works, reaching as well to the foundations of C.G. Jung’s analytical psychology and Christian philosophy (Augustinianism and Thomism). The interpretation shows that the fictional transformation of the myth about Cupid and Psyche is, in fact, psychological tale of epiphany and conversion, in which Lewis repeats the most important arguments of his essays and he comes back to the themes presented in his earlier works.
