Witch trials in Poland in the 17th and 18th centuries

Celem niniejszej pracy dyplomowej była próba zobrazowania procesów czarownic w Polsce w XVII i XVIII wieku i stanowi ona omówienie tak niewątpliwie ciekawego fragmentu dziejów XVII i XVIII -wiecznej Polski. Niniejszy temat został przez autorkę wybrany, ponieważ poszukiwała ona genezy występowania zjawisk dotyczących oskarżania kobiet o czary, które jak wynika z pracy, były szczególnie nasilone w XVII i XVII wieku.Z uwagi, iż tematem pracy były zdarzenia historyczne, główną metodą, którą posłużyła się autorka pracy była metoda historyczno-prawna. Konieczne było zatem scharakteryzowanie poszczególnych etapów procesu o czary i typowych dla tego postępowania elementów. Autorka pracy przywołała konkretne przykłady z rzeczywiście odbytych procesów kobiet oskarżonych o czary. Poprzez analizę źródeł prawa a także literaturę przedmiotu możliwym było zaprezentowanie aspektów historycznych i prawnych zjawiska, jakim były procesy czarownic w XVII i XVIII wieku.

The aim of this thesis was an attempt to illustrate the witch trials in Poland in the 17th and 18th centuries and it constitutes aa discussion of such an undoubtedly interesting part of the history of the 17th and 18th centuries in Poland. The topic was chosen by the author because she was looking for the genesis of phenomena concerning the accusation of witchcraft, which according to the work was particularly intensified in the XVII and XVII centuries.Due to the fact that the subject of the work were historical events, the main method used by the author of the work was the historical and legal method. It was therefore necessary to characterise the various stages of the process with witchcraft and the elements typical of that procedure. The author of the work cited concrete examples from the actual trials of women accused of witchcraft. By analysing the sources of law as well as the literature of the subject, it was possible to present the historical and legal aspects of the phenomenon, which were the witch trials in the XVII and XVIII centuries.
